How to Get to the Symposium Site

From the International Iasi Airport:

From the Iasi airport you can take a taxi; currently they charge 9,800 ROL/km. The cost up to the University should be about 100,000 ROL (1 EUR = 36,500 ROL (3.65 RON) and 1 US$=28,000 ROL (2.8 RON) on April 30, 2005).

From Iasi Main Train Station:

The main railway station is marked R1 on the map. You can take a taxi; currently they charge 9,800 ROL/km (0.98 RON/km). The cost up to the University should be about 30,000 ROL (3 RON). Walking (uphill) to the symposium site would take about 25 minutes.

Getting from Bucharest to Iasi

By plane:

From the "Henri Coanda" (formerly known as Otopeni) Airport in Bucharest there are flights to Iasi. For information regarding the time tables and prices please visit the official TAROM website.

There are several possibilities for transport from/to the airport

Express bus 783 connects the "Henri Coanda" (Otopeni) International Airport to Bucharest downtown (approx. 40 min).

The stops are:

BANEASA Airport;
Piata Presei Libere;
Piata Victoriei;
Piata Romana;
Piata Universitatii;
Piata Unirii;

Airport stops: in front of ARRIVALS /DEPARTURES Terminal.
Cost: 45,000 ROL (4.5 RON) - magnetic card / two trips. The cards can be purchased from the kiosk located in front of the ARRIVALS Terminal, open daily 06:00 - 20:30.

Expres 783 schedule:

Monday - Friday 5:30 - 23:40 (at every 15 min)
Saturday, Sunday, Legal Holidays 5:30 - 23:30 (at every 30 min)

There are subway links between Piata Victoriei, Piata Romana, Piata Universitatii, Piata Unirii and North Railway Station.

By train:

There are several possibilities for transport from/to the airport. Express 783 is connecting Bucharest "Henri Coanda" International Airport with the center of Bucharest (aprox. 40. min.) . The stops are:

You should get down at Piata Victoriei Station and take the subway to the "Gara de Nord" railway station (the underground fare for a card is about 18,000 ROL (1.8 RON)).

By train, the journey from Bucharest to Iasi is of about 6 hours. A first class one way train ticket is at most 800,000 ROL (80 RON). Please be awared that the main station of Bucharest is "Bucuresti Nord".

By car

The distance between Bucharest and Iasi is about 400 km. The speed limit outside the city is 90 km/h, and 50 km/h inside.

A list of hotels in Iasi is provided below. Reservations should be made either through the organizing committee by completing the online hotel reservation form (available after 1 April) or directly contacting the hotels. Please note that EUR/ROL parity is continuously changing (1 EUR = 36,500 ROL (3.65 RON) for prices indicated in the table).
A limited number of campus hostel rooms will be reserved by the organizing committee.

Bus, tram, trolley bus
The price of a ticket is 8,000 ROL (0.8 RON) and it can be bought from special booths or from the driver.

Taxi
Current daytime rate is 9,800 ROL /km (0.98 RON). Some extra charges may apply for night or weekend transportation.

The price of a ticket is 10,000 ROL (1 RON) and can be bought from the driver.

Weather : At the beginning of July the weather is fine, only some scattered showers and the average temperature is about 30 C.

Time Zone: Eastern European Time (Summer: UTC+3).

Currency: The local currency is Romanian Lei (ROL). The approximate exchange rate is about 1 EUR = 36,500 ROL (3.65 RON) and 1 US$=28,000 ROL (2.8 RON) on March 31, 2005. For various transactions and money exchange, we recommend you to contact only authorized institutions, such as banks or exchange offices. Foreign exchange facilities are available at Otopeni Airport, main railway stations and in most hotels in Bucharest and Iasi. Opening hours for Banks: Monday to Friday, 8:30am to 1:30pm, closed on weekends. Visitors are advised to bring some cash with them or to exchange some money when entering the country. VISA and Travelers Checks are accepted at most banks.

Language: Romanian (a Latin family language) is spoken throughout Romania; you will easiliy find English speakers. Most of the hotel and restaurant staff speaks English.

Electricity: Electricity is supplied at: 220 volts / 50 Hz.

Internet Access: During the conference computers with Internet access will be available at the Conference Centre. They are reserved for participants to read and send e-mails, view conference related or other web sites. You may also use commercial Internet Café’s at a rate of about 20,000 ROL (2 RON).
